Taylor Swift says “it gets a little weird” when her fans become obsessed with figuring out what songs are about which guys because “that dude didn’t write the song, I did.”

“There’s corners of my fanbase who are gonna take things to a really extreme place,” Swift said. “There’s nothing I can do about that. There’s people who are gonna try to, like, do detective work, figure out the details — who is that about? What is this?”
“When it gets a little bit weird for me is when people act like it’s a paternity test,” she said. “Like, ‘This song’s about that person.’ Because I’m like, ‘That dude didn’t write the song, I did.’ But that’s part of it,” she added.
Despite the scrutiny, Swift expressed the importance of abiding by her own “perception” when songwriting. “You have to hold tight to your perception of your art and your relationship with it, and then you kind of have to [mimes blowing it out] there it goes. Hope you like it. And if you don’t now, hope you do in five years, and if you never do, then I was doing it for me anyway.”

“I’m a massive sombr fan, of his songwriting. And his lyrics are so intensely confessional. ‘I don’t want another man’s child to have the eyes of the girl I can’t forget.’ Are you kidding me? Having a male artist say stuff like that is really good for the cause of women to be able to say stuff. If there’s any way we can make confessional songwriting a little bit more of something that isn’t, like, people take that as like you were being messy. You have to be fair to everyone then.”
On reputation (and what I’m sure she’s hoping happens to Showgirl in a few years):
🚨Taylor Swift talking about people sleeping on rep:
“I loved reputation. I know what I did… You can come around if you want. It’s OK if you don’t.’ And then 6 or 7 years later, people are like, ‘OMG, like, ‘…Ready For It?’’ People slept on that song.” pic.twitter.com/o6jqGQFONx
