-Angine de Poitrine are a pair of 333-year old aliens, or punk rockers from Saguenay, Quebec, depending on who you ask
-They are fully independent, and remain unsigned with any major label
-The aliens went viral in February from a recording of a live performance [

-They have since played for crowds as big as 100,000 people at the Jazz festival in Montreal
-As independent artists, they have been able to say no to a lot of things so the band members don’t get overwhelmed
-Despite their rise to fame, they have not cancelled any shows. This week alone, they played two double shows — opening for Jack White in Toronto, then headlining at their own show at another venue later that night. On Sunday, they played the Toronto FIFA fan fest half time show, then played the Hillside festival in Guelph, Ontario. They also played at Bluesfest in Ottawa this week, and two more shows in Toronto. Seven shows in less than a week.
-Their albums have charted in the top 15 and top 5 variously on the US Billboard Dance, Rock and Alternative charts

Their rise reminds me of Chappelle Roan’s, and I think they probably learned a few things from watching her mis-steps (e.g. cancelling shows at smaller venues with tickets that were sold cheap for bigger, newer promo opportunities).

The discourse around these guys has centered a lot on the idea that they’re the anti-AI band. They play microtonal music, which is outside the typical Western 12-note scale. Once you start listening to them, it may take over your brain.

Do you welcome our new alien overlords, ONTD?
