The Good Wife star, 74, has revealed she regularly hosts A-listers at her secluded country estate and her saucy parties always include guests throwing off their clothes for a naked swimming session.
She told the Guardian: “I have a marvellous house on a lake in Connecticut and I’ve hosted some very famous actors there. It has a very long dock that has been ‘grandfathered’ in, as in they don’t allow a dock that long to be built any more, but this is about 100 years old.
“You sit in the living room in summer and watch the sun set, and then go out into the evening and skinny dip in the lake.
“When I did [the play] Boeing-Boeing for nine months on Broadway with Mark Rylance, he became a great pal – he’s a godfather to my third grandson – and we’d be out there howling at the moon at four in the morning. So much fun.”
When asked if she’s ever had a guest who refused to disrobe, Christine replied: “Oh, it’s not a prerequisite. I encourage people only if they’re comfortable and if it’s pitch dark.”
However, Christine revealed one actress who comes to her house likes to sunbathe naked in the garden and often falls asleep out there.
She said: “One actress I adore insisted on sunbathing stark naked in the middle of the afternoon. In fact, she would spend all night on the dock, fall asleep on there and then wake up at dawn and there she was!”
Christine is currently staying busy by fulfilling a “dream” by performing in London’s West End.
She made her West End debut in a new production of Noel Coward’s comedy Hay Fever, which runs from September 22 until December 12 at the Wyndham’s Theatre.
Christine told BBC News: “It’s been on my bucket list for years. It’s going to be just wonderful, I can’t tell you how excited I am. Believe me, I’m already studying the role, learning my lines, and working to polish an English accent.”
Christine, who appears in the production opposite Richard E Grant, said her busy filming schedule had always prevented her from returning to her theatre roots.
She said: “The problem has always been my filming schedule, which has not allowed me to carve out enough time to do a play, but if ever there was a play for me to do, it would be this one.
“The skill set involved is so to my liking – dusting off my light comedy skills and doing it with an ensemble cast of actors who are keen to revive Coward in that way.”
