Taylor Swift is about to make history at the 2026 MTV VMAs!
The 36-year-old superstar will receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors during the awards show on Sunday (September 27) in Los Angeles.
The new award recognizes music artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music videos and advanced visual storytelling.
The honor will also make Taylor the most-awarded artist in MTV VMAs history, breaking her current tie with Beyoncé. The two stars currently have 30 VMA wins each, and the new honor will bring Taylor to 31.

Taylor is a seven-time Best Director nominee at the VMAs and has won the category four times.
Her directing credits include “The Fate of Ophelia,” “Opalite,” “The Man,” “cardigan,” “willow,” All Too Well: The Short Film, “Anti-Hero,” “Bejeweled,” “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone, “I Can See You (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault),” “Karma” featuring Ice Spice and “Lavender Haze.”
The new Artist Director Honors celebrates a sustained and influential body of work from artists who have pushed creative boundaries and developed a distinct voice as directors.
Taylor also enters this year’s ceremony with nine competitive nominations, the second-most of any artist behind Madonna with 11.
When & How to Watch the 2026 MTV VMAs
The 2026 MTV VMAs will air live from Los Angeles on Sunday (September 27) from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET on CBS. The show will also be simulcast on MTV and will stream live for Paramount+ Premium subscribers in the United States.
Snoop Dogg is hosting the ceremony, while Madonna is set to open the show with her first VMA performance in 23 years.
Additional performers, presenters and special guests are expected to be announced later this week.
