After calling Joe and Neal’s marriage into question, could Lioness make Kyle a potential romantic interest in season 4?
During an exclusive interview with Us at the UFC 331 on Paramount+ red carpet, Dave Annable shared his honest thoughts on the possible twist, quipping, “I hate it! Hate it!”
Annable, who plays Neal, clarified that he understood the interest from viewers, adding, “I mean, I get it. He’s handsome. He’s fighting for her, you know? They want the love triangle.”
While Annable didn’t know what’s coming next, he had his own idea for a potential trio. “I pitched it with Zoe [Saldaña], myself and Morgan Freeman,” he joked. “It got lost in my idea zone. Just we’ll see. I’m going to keep writing letters.”
Season 3 of Lioness wrapped on Sunday, September 20, with Joe (Saldaña) retiring to an empty home after her husband, Neal, cleared out his stuff and took their two daughters with him.
“I think it was time, right?” Annable told Us. “I think it’s going to be something that I’m very interested to explore next season. [It] is what that looks like after the fact. He loves his wife, but you gotta pull the trigger at some point.”
Costar LaMonica Garrett, meanwhile, joked that Neal had help with making the decision from his character, Tucker.
“I think there was a draft out there that said Tucker helped him move his stuff out,” he quipped, with Annable adding, “Because Neal couldn’t carry it. Tucker gave me a piggyback ride.”
Before the finale, Annable teased where Neal’s head was at when it came to his marriage.
“I think Neal is broken. I think Neal is really hurt,” he explained to Us. “There was hope that she would be on that other line, saying, ‘I can’t wait to see you guys. I’m on my way.’ And when she says that she’s not coming home, that really paints a very clear picture for Neal about her priorities at that moment — and I don’t, obviously, think he and the children are at that moment.”

Annable referred to the moment as “heartbreaking.”
“It was a very difficult scene to shoot — a lot of emotions and heartbreak,” he noted. “Like I said, it’s really something that I think rocks Neal and we’ll see what he does [in the future].”
While the show hasn’t been renewed for a fourth season yet, Annable is “very curious” about what would come next in the couple’s story.
“I’m very curious of what Neal and Joe’s journey could be like in season 4. If we’re lucky enough to get one — which I’m certainly hoping we are — I think there’s a lot to play there,” he told Us. “I think this moment has really left an imprint on him and not necessarily a good one.”
