Obsession is defying all the box office odds.

The hit Curry Barker-directed indie horror movie rose an incredible 10% in its third weekend for an additional $26.4 million, following a 39% increase in its second weekend.

It’s now the first movie since 1982’s E.T. The Extraterrestrial to have second and third weekend increases outside of the holiday season according to Focus Features, via Variety.

The movie has now made over $106 million domestically and $148 million worldwide, and was made with a $1 million production budget.

It also broke the record for highest-grossing movie of all time for Focus Features, beating 2019’s Downton Abbey haul of $96.8 million in North America.

Will there be a sequel? Here’s what Curry Barker has to say, and find out what lead actress Inde Navarrette thinks about a possible sequel.

The indie horror movie, which currently commands a glowing 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes among critics and 95% score among audiences, hit theaters on May 15.

In the movie, after breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart (Navarrette), a hopeless romantic (Michael Johnston) finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.

The 26-year-old YouTuber-turned-director is now getting offers for his next project, which he hasn’t even pitched yet.

One studio is so intent on working with him that they’ve “attempted to make a preemptive offer of $10 million for Barker’s next original project, sight unseen,” a source tells THR. Find out more about the deals.

Find out which scene almost got them a NC-17 rating.
