Warner Bros. has announced the official title for the upcoming sequel to A Minecraft Movie.
The first movie was a surprise box office smash hit in 2025, earning nearly $1 billion at the worldwide box office, fueled by the YouTube generation and the Chicken Jockey scene that caused audiences to go crazy in movie theaters.
Warner Bros. is currently working on a sequel, which will be released in theaters on July 23, 2027.
The sequel will be titled, A Minecraft Movie: Squared
The news was announced by Warner Bros Motion Picture Co-Chair Michael De Luca during a conference on Saturday (May 30), according to Deadline.
Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, and Jennifer Coolidge are all returning for the sequel with Kirsten Dunst and Matt Berry joining the cast.
Back in August 2025, Kirsten voiced publicly that she wanted to be in the sequel and then her dream came true later on. At the time, she told Town & Country that her kids loved the first film and, “Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money?”
Jared Hess is returning as director for the sequel. He’s also the director of the beloved comedy Napoleon Dynamite.
