Olivia Rodrigo is opening up about her decision to skip the 2026 Met Gala, even though she was in New York City that night and went to one of the after parties.
The 23-year-old singer made her Met Gala debut in 2021 at the age of 18, months after her song “Driver’s License” became a smash hit. She then attended for the next two years, but hasn’t been back since 2023.

In 2021, she wore a black lace look from Saint Laurent. In 2022, she attended in a purple Versace gown. In 2023, she wore a black and white Thom Browne gown.
While chatting with New York Times’ Popcast, Olivia addressed speculation that she skipped for political or moral reasons.
So, what’s the truth?
“I just, I’m not really a fashion girl. Really, I’m not a fashion girl,” Olivia said with a laugh.
She continued, “Gosh, how do I choose my words wisely? Um, I think I’ve… this is my third album. I don’t feel like I need to do things that don’t, like, bring me joy or inspire me or fuel me or feel aligned with my values, or something like that. It’s not as fun or exciting anymore. What’s fun and exciting is talking to you guys or making a song that I really love or make a music video I think is cool.”

When the hosts brought up that Olivia‘s at a point in her career when she can “say no,” she agreed and added, “you can be a little more discerning and I think that that’s cool.
