Renate Reinsve is already an Oscar-nominated actress, so it seems difficult for someone’s star power to first be on the rise, but she’s about to have a huge year thanks to her movie Backrooms.
The 38-year-old Norwegian actress stars in newcomer director Kane Parsons‘ new movie, which is the feature-length version of his popular YouTube series.
Renate is best known for her star-making performance in 2021’s The Worst Person in the World, for which she won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival. She later earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in last year’s Sentimental Value.
So, who is Renate‘s boyfriend?
Renate is dating Norwegian filmmaker Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel
Renate is in a relationship with Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel.
Halfdan is the grandson of legendary Norwegian actress Liv Ullmann and Swedish director Ingmar Bergman.
Just a couple years ago, Halfdan’s directorial debut Armand, which starred Renate, won the Camera d’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival.
They’ve discussed their “chemistry” in a Vogue cover story
Vogue Scandinavia featured Renate and Halfdan on the cover of the magazine in January 2025, with editor-in-chief Martina Bonnier calling them the “Norwegian film power couple.”
“We have a really special chemistry and we kind of thrive on each other’s work and ideas,” Haldan said in the interview.
Halfdan has also compared Renate to his grandmother!
“For the first time since my grandmother we have a true Norwegian star with Renate! I can’t speak to its relation to the past of Nordic cinema because it was so different making films when Ingmar was doing it. He made 53 films, which would be impossible today,” he said in another interview.
Renate shares a son with former boyfriend, animator Julian Nazario Vargas.
