Ella Langley is addressing her highly publicized decision to cancel her Friday, October 9, concert due to an alleged security threat.
“When it comes to keeping you safe and making sure that this show is a safe place for us to come and enjoy our music, then it will happen — but the second it feels like it will not, I’m not doing it,” Langley, 27, told concertgoers during her Saturday, October 10, return to the stage in Lubbock, Texas, per social media footage. “I’m not doing it, because a concert’s not worth a human life. It’s not.”
Langley abruptly cancelled Friday’s scheduled performance in Tulsa, Oklahoma, over a “serious security threat.”
“I would have made yesterday’s decision 10 billion times over — and I’d do it tomorrow and I’d do it the next day because, while I’m grateful to get to do what I do, it’s not the most important thing in this life,” she stated onstage Saturday. “What’s the most important thing in this life is the people around that love you and are there for you no matter what. The most important thing in this life is making sure you wake up every day and feel like, ‘You know what? I’m good today and I’m so grateful to have woken up today.’”
Langley continued, “The most important thing in this life, No. 1., is your relationship is your relationship with Jesus Christ. If it wasn’t for him, I would have canceled this show tonight. I would have, but I felt this calling and this tug in my chest saying, ‘It’s OK, we’re safe and we can do this show.’ I decided to because of him right there, and that’s the only reason.”
Langley further stressed that she had no intention to “live in fear” as she continues to move forward.
“We are going to put on music and get to do this for the rest of our lives,” she added. “I know that because this is my calling. This is the thing that I was called to do, and I’m gonna continue doing it — and nobody is gonna talk me out of it [or] scare me out of it. No, you will not!”
During her Saturday show, Langley expressed her gratitude to the fans in attendance.
“I just want to say thank you so much for showing up tonight. I know yesterday was scary,” she acknowledged. “It was scary for all of us, but we’re just so grateful to be playing this show tonight … and we will never take this for granted. We love it, we love what we do [and] I wouldn’t trade it for the world. This is my favorite thing to do in my life.”
