Last week, former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn was convicted of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn.
Today, Flynn learned that he’ll spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Flynn, 40, was sentenced Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole following his conviction in the February killing of Ashley, a 37-year-old schoolteacher and volleyball coach in Tipp City, Ohio.

Prosecutors argued that Flynn staged a home invasion after shooting Ashley, then attempted to convince authorities that a burglar was responsible.
The case took an especially disturbing turn because Flynn was carrying on an affair at the time.
According to prosecutors, Flynn sent his lover a message the night before Ashley was killed that read: “I choose you. I’m free. Actions will come tomorrow.”
The woman, Alleigha Botner, testified during the trial about her relationship with Flynn. Jurors also heard evidence about the couple’s extensive text exchanges, as well as AI-generated love songs Flynn allegedly created for Botner.
Flynn maintained his innocence despite the evidence presented against him.
His defense pointed out that the gun used to kill Ashley was never recovered and argued that investigators had not found evidence directly proving Flynn fired the weapon.
But prosecutors presented fingerprints, DNA and digital evidence that they said contradicted Flynn’s account of what happened inside the family’s home.
A jury ultimately found Flynn guilty of murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence.
During Monday’s sentencing, Flynn became emotional while addressing his family, including his two daughters.
“I made vows to Ashley on our wedding day. I failed in those vows,” he said, while still insisting that he did not kill his wife.
Judge Jeannine Pratt, however, was not persuaded.
The judge said she was deeply disturbed by what she described as Flynn’s use of his faith to conceal his “deceit” and “lust.”
She also referenced a statement from one of Ashley’s daughters, who asked a heartbreaking question:
“What did Ashley ever do to make you hate her so much?”
Flynn first gained national attention in 2013 when he appeared on Idol and he spoke about Ashley encouraging him to pursue his musical dreams.
More than a decade later, that brief television appearance is now overshadowed by the crime that will define the rest of his life.
