Emily Blunt is returning to the Sicario franchise!
The 43-year-old actress is reportedly set to reunite with Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin for the upcoming third movie, more than a decade after the original Sicario was released.
Emily starred as FBI agent Kate Macer in the 2015 movie, alongside Benicio as Alejandro Gillick and Josh as Matt Graver. While Benicio and Josh returned for the 2018 sequel Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Emily did not appear in the movie.
Who is returning for Sicario 3?
Emily, Benicio and Josh are all on board to return for the third movie, according to a new report from Deadline.
The outlet reports that the three stars read the latest version of the script before agreeing to return.
Padraic McKinley, who directed the upcoming movie The Weight, has been tapped to direct Sicario 3. Oscar-nominated Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight penned the script and is currently working on it with Padraic based on notes from the stars. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
The plan is reportedly to begin filming in early 2027.
The first two Sicario movies were released by Lionsgate, but the third movie does not currently have a distributor. Black Label Media and Thunder Road plan to take the project to the market, with several studios already showing interest, according to Deadline.
Taylor Sheridan created the franchise and wrote the first two movies. The original Sicario was directed by Denis Villeneuve, while Stefano Sollima directed the sequel.
Emily, Benicio and Josh previously reunited on the red carpet while promoting the original movie at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. Check out the photos from the original premiere!
