There’s a third Sicario on the way!

Josh Brolin, who plays Matt Graver in the 2015 original movie and the 2018 sequel Sicario: Day of the Soldado, recently confirmed a third installment in the film franchise.

The 58-year-old actor said production “is happening” in the near future, and that production is kicking off “soon,” via ScreenRant.

There are still plenty of unknown details, including the writer(s) of the script, as well as who would be directing the latest installment.

The cast is also still up in the air. Based on the sequel, we know Benicio del Toro‘s Alejandro Gillick is still around, and Jeffrey Donovan and Raoul Trujillo‘s characters. It’s also unknown whether Emily Blunt could return.

Taylor Sheridan wrote the original, with Denis Villenueve as the director.

In the 2015 original, an FBI agent joins a covert DoD task force targeting a Mexican cartel. Operating outside legal boundaries with a CIA handler and a mysterious fixer, she discovers the mission’s true purpose goes far beyond what she was told.

In the 2018 follow-up, the drug war on the U.S.-Mexico border has escalated as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border. To fight the war, federal agent Matt Graver re-teams with the mercurial Alejandro.

Stay tuned as we wait for further details!

Josh Brolin also stars in a highly buzzed-about project involving a whale swallowing a man whole.
