Anna Faris has revealed her teenage son has asked her to accept Jesus Christ as she described the “long conversations” they have over religion, abortion and hypocrisy within the church

The actress, 49, discussed the beliefs of her 14-year-old son, Jack, whom she shares with former husband Chris Pratt, 47, during an appearance on Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea podcast, with The Scary Movie star saying her boy has developed a strong interest in Christianity despite her not being raised religious – and admitting she regularly challenges him about some of his views.

Anna told Chelsea: “(I) didn’t grow up with religion.”

Discussing Jack’s beliefs, she added he has asked her to accept Jesus Christ.

But she said she tries to “challenge” him and admitted it would take a “whole lot of long conversations” before she became religious.

Anna also said their discussions have included Christian attitudes to abortion, adding: “I’m like, ‘Do you think it’s a luxury that you get to be pro-life? Do you think that’s kind of a luxury?’ He’s like, ‘Maybe’.”

Anna said she had also questioned him about wealthy religious figures, adding: “Or I’ll say, ‘So what do you think of this mega-pastor that’s kind of a grifter? What do you think?’ He’s like, ‘Oh, megapastors are the worst’.”

The actress said she welcomed Jack’s willingness to question aspects of religion despite their differing backgrounds.

She added she is appreciative he’s “examining religion the way he is in terms of recognising hypocrisy”.

Anna has Jack with Chris, who she married in 2009.

They announced their separation in 2017 and finalised their divorce the following year.

Anna later married cinematographer Michael Barrett, while Chris married Katherine Schwarzenegger, with whom he has three children.

Chris, known for playing Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation and Peter Quill, or Star-Lord, in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, has repeatedly discussed his Christian faith publicly.

He previously said Jack’s premature birth was pivotal in strengthening those beliefs.

Speaking to the Christian Post in March 2025, Chris said: “He had all of these issues going on. I prayed hard to God. I was in a season of transition spiritually at that time, and didn’t quite fully understand. I made a deal with God again, ‘I’m sorry, God, here I am again, asking for your grace again’.”

Chris added: “He really saved my son, and that was the moment (my faith) was cemented.”

Anna’s comments come as she has returned prominently to the screen.

She recently reprised Cindy Campbell, the role that helped establish her as a comedy star, in the latest Scary Movie installment and is appearing alongside Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher and Michelle Buteau in the comedy Spa Weekend, released on 21 August.

Her other best-known film roles include playing Shelley Darlingson in The House Bunny and Samantha James in Just Friends, while she starred as Christy Plunkett opposite Allison Janney in the CBS sitcom Mom.
