Sam Rubin, 64, an American journalist who served as the entertainment reporter for the KTLA Morning News, tragically and suddenly passed away last Friday due to a heart attack.
His son, Colby, 16, joined the KTLA 5 Morning News with a four-minute tribute to his father spoken direct to camera. In it he remembers his father’s support for his aspiring theatrical ambitions, their trips to Disneyland, and more.
“I idolized you. You are and will always be my hero,” he said. “I never got to tell you that, and I’m so sorry, dad.”
Celebrities such as Viola Davis, Ryan Reynolds, and more offered their condolences to Rubin’s family on social media.
Colby also shared onscreen a text exchange with his father in which he told his dad he could not go through with a particular theatrical performance because someone had criticized him. “My confidence just got shot,” wrote Colby.
Rubin wrote back, “Ignore the noise. You will get bad reviews for every show…Probably most of the kids feel the same way…but everyone is going to dig deep and do a great job. You have excellent genes. You have every gift. Respect your own talent.”
