Grimes is opening up about her upcoming album.
The 38-year-old singer is gearing up to release her next LP, Psy Opera, which will be her first in seven years when it’s released in 2027.
In a new interview, Grimes shared that the AI-inspired album will not have any songs about her ex, Elon Musk.
Why Grimes’ new AI-inspired album won’t have songs about Elon Musk
While appearing on the Sunday (October 11) episode of the Swiftologist podcast, Grimes revealed she “didn’t want any of” her new album to be about her former partner.
“I really didn’t want to write… I just didn’t want any of this to be about Elon,” she said.
She did add that she plans to release the album in two parts, and the second will be “100% personal.”
When asked if she felt her personal life was too high-stakes to be open about, she said, “Not at all. I just… they couldn’t come first.”
“And I felt like this stuff is very relevant,” she added in reference to themes of AI and technology in her upcoming album. “I sort of wish I had a bit more of the emotions on this side and a bit more computer on the other side. That’s my only regret about this album.”
What does she mean when she says the album is AI-inspired?
“It’s almost more of a… like, the AI is a mirror and like looking inward from what it’s showing us about ourselves,” Grimes revealed.
If you recall, Grimes and Elon Musk were first linked together in May 2018 after attending the Met Gala together. They share three children together, son X Æ A-Xii, 6, daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, 5, and son Techno Mechanicus, 4. They split in 2022.
Last year, Elon started bringing X Æ A-Xii to the White House with him, and Grimes called out the tech billionaire for putting their son in the spotlight without her permission.
Earlier this year, Grimes gave an update on co-parenting with Elon and revealed what they disagree on.
