Soulja Boy is touting he may be running for President of the United States in the near future.
The 36-year-old rapper shared his plan on Saturday (October 10) with a post on Instagram, featuring a photo of himself standing in front of a US flag.
“A new chapter. A bigger vision. A commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation.
My focus is on four things: economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and AI.
From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible.
Now I’m exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service.
The future starts with a conversation.” – Soulja Boy via Instagram
After his post gained some traction, he reposted a few headlines talking about his social media post teasing his potential political move.
What other rappers have ran for president?
Soulja Boy isn’t the first rapper to pursue a career in politics, or even run for president.
Most recently and prominently, Kanye West announced he was running for president in 2020 with a post on Twitter/X. He launched his campaign in July 2020, after missing the deadline to be on the ballot as a third-party candidate in at least six states. After qualifying to be on the ballot in 13 states, he continued to pursue the presidency, but after failing to receive enough votes, he conceded his run the day after Election Day.
Kanye then announced in 2022 that he would run again in the 2024 presidential election, but in late 2023, a spokesperson revealed he was not actively a candidate.
Other rappers who have made the attempt include Afroman, who filed paperwork in 2024, and Waka Flocka Flame in 2015, though he did not meet the constitutional age requirement of 35 years old at the time. Wyclef Jean also attempted to run for president, but in his home country of Haiti.
