The cast has been announced for new Cold War spy series Honey, which is a co-production between BBC and German network ZDF. Ann Skelly (House of Guinness) will lead the show, with Nate Mann (Masters of the Air), Jannis Niewöhner (Munich: The Edge of War), and Rory Kinnear (The Diplomat) rounding out the main cast. The rest of the ensemble includes Oliver Cudbill, Sonita Henry, Victoria Mayer, Valentino Dalle Mura, July Namir, Julian Niedermeier, Sofia Oxenham, and Daniel Zielinski.

Synopsis: “East Berlin, 1982. Martha Schmitt (Skelly) is a deep cover agent for MI6. Surrounded by enemies and constantly under threat of her cover being blown, she tries her hardest to avoid detection by Friedrich (Niewöhner), the new Stasi Head of Counterespionage against British Targets, Berlin Office. Finding herself caught between Friedrich and the reckless, arrogant CIA operative Aaron Neeland (Mann), she is blind-sided by desire in this Cold War menage-a-trois.”

Although BBC has not confirmed, Deadline is reporting Honey is linked to Killing Eve. Potential spoiler: [Spoiler (click to open)]According to Deadline, Martha is actually a younger Carolyn Martens, Fiona Shaw’s character in the original show. Given the way that show went out, people may be relieved to know that neither of Honey‘s two credited writers (Emma Nolan and Emme Hoy) ever worked on Killing Eve.
