Frances Haugen is the whistleblower whose bravery led to the release of The Facebook Files and now her story is being told in the movie The Social Reckoning.

Oscar winner Mikey Madison portrays the former Facebook employee in the film, showing what happened when the real Frances discovered details about the inner-workings of the social media company and decided to come forward with the information.

“The thing I saw at Facebook over and over again was there were conflicts of interest between what was good for the public and what was good for Facebook. Facebook, over and over again, chose to optimize for its own interests, like making more money,” Frances told 60 Minutes.

Frances worked with writer and director Aaron Sorkin to help tell her story accurately.

“I first met Aaron a few months after I came forward as a whistleblower, and he wanted to figure out if it was possible to do a companion piece to The Social Network. After my memoir came out, he came back to me with this heavily underlined, sticky-noted, dog-eared copy,” Frances told Time.

What did Frances Haugen think of the finished movie?

Frances told People that she’s “pleased” with the movie.

“[Sorkin] asked a lot of really good questions. It was very clear he really cared about the space. He cared about democracy. He cared about the role of social media in society. I’m very, very happy [with] how the movie turned out,” she said.

She told People, “I’m so glad that this movie is coming out now. I hope it reminds people that there is a remarkable amount of strength and a remarkable amount of power in even one small frontline person.”

Will Mark Zuckerberg watch The Social Reckoning?

Mikey Madison told Time in a chat with Frances, “I do. How do you feel about that?”

Frances responded, “My hope is that he watches the movie and sees Jeremy Strong’s performance and asks himself, ‘Do I want to be living this life? Is this the legacy that I want?’ Because sometimes you can’t see it in the mirror until art reflects it.”

She added in a chat with People, “I hope he watches it. I hope he uses this moment of reflection and inflection to say, ’Do I want to make the same choices as I explore AI as I did as I explored social media?’”
