Shane Gillis is facing criticism for jokes he made during his latest Saturday Night Live appearance.

The 38-year-old comedian returned to host the NBC sketch comedy series on Saturday (October 10), with Rosalía serving as the musical guest.

During his opening monologue, Shane joked about trying to get back into shape and feeling uncomfortable at public gyms.

While discussing the clothing women wear to work out, he made a remark that drew groans from the studio audience.

“Also, I haven’t been to the gym in so long I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?” he said.

Shane continued the joke by describing the tight-fitting shorts he has seen women wearing at the gym. He also joked about being told not to stare, especially because people might be recording videos for social media.

“I’m in the background of like 10 TikToks right now,” he joked.

The remarks prompted criticism from viewers online, with some calling the jokes sexist and questioning why SNL brought Shane back as a host.

Some viewers took to social media to criticize Shane‘s comments, with one X user calling the monologue “offensive and not funny.” Another viewer questioned why women were being criticized for their gym clothing when men often work out wearing very little themselves.

The comedian also joked about gay men at the gym and compared his receding hairline to Adolf Hitler‘s hairstyle.

“I’ll tell you the thing that I’m really bothered by is: I’ve balded directly into an Adolf Hitler haircut,” he said.

“There’s no way to adjust it without looking exactly like [Hitler]. It’s the only way. I’m not going to [brush it to the side], that’s gay, he continued.

He ended the monologue by joking, “You’re either gay or you’re Hitler, and isn’t that where we’re at as a country?” The joke received few laughs from the studio audience.

Shane previously made headlines when he was fired from SNL in 2019 shortly after joining the cast. The decision came after past podcast clips resurfaced featuring racist and homophobic remarks.

He later returned to host the show in February 2024 and March 2025 before his latest appearance.

Saturday’s episode also featured another headline-making moment when Shane accidentally cursed during a live sketch inspired by Green Eggs and Ham.

He briefly broke character after realizing what he had said and later apologized for the mistake.
