Cher is mourning the death of her longtime friend and collaborator Bob Mackie.
If you didn’t see the sad news, it was announced on Monday (September 14) that the legendary costume designer had passed away at the age of 87.
Hours later, the 80-year-old Oscar and Grammy winner took to X to share a sweet message remembering Bob.
“My dear Bob has gone up to heaven,” Cher began. “Knowing him, he’s bringing sequins, beads, and his sketch pad.”
“Good nite my sweet prince,” she added.
Bob & Cher have known each other for over 50 years
Bob and Cher first met in 1971 on the set of The Carol Burnett Show and they quickly hit it off and began working together. Over the years, Bob created the majority of Cher’s most iconic, boundary-pushing, and flamboyant fashion moments.
“A woman who wears my clothes is not afraid to be noticed,” Bob famously once said.
He was a 32-time Emmy nominee and nine-time winner, taking home trophies for his work with Cher, Carol Burnett and Diana Ross. In 2002, he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame. He was also a three-time Oscar nominee for his work on the movies Lady Sings the Blues, Funny Lady and Pennies From Heaven.
Despite designing costumes for Broadway shows for decades, Bob received his only Tony nomination, and win, for his work on 2018’s The Cher Show.
