Sam Waterston is returning to NBC for a new series after departing Law & Order.
He has joined the upcoming drama series Line of Fire starring 9-1-1 alum Peter Krause. Chris Chalk and Campbell Scott have also joined the cast and the series will premiere this fall, per Deadline.
Who are Sam Waterston, Campbell Scott, and Chris Calk playing?
Sam will play former President Thomas Barnes, who shares a deep bond with Peter‘s character, Mike. Mike remains haunted by a close call that occurred while he was assigned to Barnes’ Secret Service detail.
Sam notably played Jack McCoy for over 18 seasons on Law & Order. He left the show in 2024.
Chris Calk is set to guest star as the current President Kayana. He’s known for Perry Mason, The Newsroom, and It: Welcome to Derry.
Campbell will recur as a United States senator named Terry, the boyfriend of a woman named Jane, played by Hope Davis.
What is Line of Fire about?
Line of Fire follows a family “who bridge personal differences and cross professional boundaries as they tackle cases for the FBI, US Marshals, Secret Service, and Department of Justice. After a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy, they must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice … even if it means betraying their sworn code.”
Hope and Peter are the leads, but the show also stars Kat Cunning, Tommy O’Brien, Taylor Bloom, and Charlie Barnett.
It will premiere on Monday, September 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, with episodes streaming the following day on Peacock. Watch the trailer!
