Juliet Stevenson has shared the “best business investment” she’s made with her acting fortune over the years.

Juliet Stevenson paid off her children’s student loans

The Emma star has revealed she feels “very lucky” to have been able to pay off her children’s student loans so they didn’t have to start their careers saddled with debt.

Juliet – who has a son and a daughter with her husband Hugh Brody – told The Sunday Times newspaper: “Maybe my best business investment was helping my children with their student loans. I just hate the idea of them having to pay off student loans for years and years.

“My daughter has just finished her medical training. She wants to be a GP. I didn’t want to see her pay off a loan for years and years. I was very lucky to be able to do that.”

In the interview, Juliet also confessed she thinks it’s “mad” that as an actress she earns more than people with “important jobs” such as nurses and train drivers.

She said: “It’s random that I’m paid more than a nurse in A E. It’s random I’m paid more than somebody who drives the Tube every night or cleans our streets.

“The pay structures are mad in relation to who’s doing important jobs and who is not. Fundamentally, I’m a huge believer in supporting others if you can afford it.”

However, Juliet also admitted she does splash her cash on nice holidays as a treat. She added: “My husband and I share the costs, but I do splash out if I want to. We love travelling. I love having a good time.”

Juliet, 69, tied the knot with Hugo in 21 after more than 30 years as a couple and she previously admitted getting married “sort of made sense” because they are “older now”.

When asked what getting married has changed about their relationship, Juliet told the Guardian newspaper: “Absolutely nothing at all! “So many people said: ‘Oh, I felt quite different once we got married’, but that’s not true for me.”

She went on to add: “The only reason we did it is we’re older now, and it made a sort of sense.”

Juliet went on to insist she feels incredibly “lucky” to still be madly in love after so many years together.

She said: “To have weathered some of the most challenging storms, and actually love each other even more after many, many years, makes me feel incredibly lucky. “Love needs time and energy. It’s the most important force in the world.”
