Mitch McConnell‘s health has been a mystery for the past three weeks after the Republican senator from Kentucky was hospitalized for a medical emergency and now there are new claims spreading around.
Trump ally Laura Loomer took to X on Thursday (July 6) to claim that McConnell is “brain dead,” which she says a high level source close to the White House told her.

Loomer‘s source claims that he’s being kept alive by a life support machine and the organ failure is accelerating. The source claims he’s “officially brain dead” and that his “wife Elaine Chao has fled the country to China.”
Desiree Townsend, the reporter who originally broke the story of McConnell‘s medical emergency, says that sources have been telling her the same thing “for days.”
Nothing has been confirmed as of this point and these claims are unverified. McConnell‘s team has not spoken out in response to the allegations and they’ve barely spoken in the past few weeks.
What has Mitch McConnell’s team said about his health?
McConnell reportedly was rushed to the hospital on June 14 after losing consciousness while at home in Washington, D.C. These details came to light weeks later when the 911 call emerged, but before then, nothing was really known about his health.
At the time, McConnell‘s team said, “Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care.”
One week after being hospitalized, McConnell‘s team spoke out again just to say that he wouldn’t be voting that week.
McConnell‘s office last released an update on July 2, saying that the senator “continues to improve” and ”appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital.”
