John Lithgow Says J.K. Rowling’s Trans Views Have Been “Twisted and Misrepresented”

My former childhood hero has disappointed us all again, by quadrupling down and further defending taking the role of Albus Dumbledore in the unnecessary cash grab remake of Harry Potter. He goes on to clarify that he – a white, straight, cis man, took a job that will help Terfy McGee fund making life worse for trans people, because it offered him job security before retirement. Something he surely needs more than trans people need the right to live their own lives and identities.
“The reasons to do it were much, much stronger than the reasons to protest against what Rowling has done and said. I do disagree with much of it, much of it I think has been twisted and misrepresented, and she has doubled down on it at her own cost,” he $aid, doubling down on it at hi$ own co$t.
John went on to state that he had already taken the job by the time he heard about Jake Hay’s views. However, as a reminder, John was asked to re-think the role by a friend who has a trans child, and refused. He was approached at a fan convention and had people explain why this was harmful, and he still did it. And recently he worked on a film with non-binary actor Aud Mason-Hyde, who described him as “a very loving and a very guiding co-star” but still saw him doing the remake as hurtful.
Have you ever quadrupled down?
