That 00’s pop girl sound. You know what I mean. Below are 5 great pop girl albums that nobody talks about anymore because they were so perfectly of their time.
Sophie Monk – Calendar Girl (2003)

This Aussie celeb and former girl group member released one solo album – and it’s a standout, quirky pop album that is peak 00’s pop girl excellence.

“Come My Way” is the highlight of the album (our resident J-pop fans may be more familiar with Namie Amuro’s version) but is by no means the only solid pop song on offer. Interspersed between the dance floor bangers are interludes featuring Monk’s take on pieces like “Pie Jesu” and “Ave Maria” – it’s the kind of bizarre pop girl insanity that makes no sense but is kind of iconic at the same time.

    Kat DeLuna – 9 Lives (2007)

DeLuna’s debut album gave us the energetic “Whine Up” which still rules and is one hell of a debut single! But the rest of the album is SO solid and features a wide range of musical styles and some signature ’00s pop girl staples – from the moody piano ballad in “Love Me, Leave Me” to the broken hearted toxic bad girl in “In The End.” Her videos are a treat as well for great ’00s fashion and makeup (sequins upon sequins upon sequins, baby!).

    Oh yeah, and CHOREO:

*I’m gonna pop my own flashing images warning on this one. Video editors in the ’00s were out of their fucking minds*

She should have had a way bigger career. We’ve done justice for Glitter, we’ve done justice for JC Chasez, can we please start a justice for Kat DeLuna campaign?

Off topic from this post, but her 2010 album Inside Out is also a quintessentially ’10s album and “Drop It Low” still slaps. Just an FYI. A public service announcement. My civic duty to this community.

Rachel Stevens – Come and Get It (2005)

In typical ’00s pop girl fashion, a fan had to upload this in HD because the video on her official YouTube account is still in fucking potato quality.

Rachel from S Club 7 released two solo albums – Come and Get It is her second (and final) and it’s a cohesive and largely well-received output. This would have been a huge album if it were put out by someone a little more vocally competent and charismatic (Kylie, for example).

    Jamelia – Thank You (2003)

Jamelia’s sophmore album is that perfect blend of early ’00s R&B, hip hop, and pop. The sound is familiar to you, but Jamelia’s deep cuts probably aren’t! Her single “Superstar” is so insanely infectious and the rest of the album is worthy of exploring.

Agnes – Dance Love Pop (2008)

What would a pop list be without a Swede? This is a case of an album title perfectly encapsulating what an album is about. It’s an A+ pop record with solid production – it still sounds great! Agnes is still out here making fantastic music, btw.
