It was another slow weekend at the box office as Oscar noms get nice bumps.
The Beekeeper came out on top with $7.4 million, falling 14% from last weekend. Mean Girls followed close behind in 2nd with $7.3 million. Wonka came in 3rd with $5.9 million, dropping only 12%. The film is $5M away from crossing the $200M mark, and should do so by next weekend. Migration followed, dropping 6%, to $5.15 million. Its gross is now passed $100M, with $101.2M. Anyone But You rounded out the Top 5 with $4.8 million.
In Best Picture expansions: American Fiction expanding to 1702 theaters and increased 65% to gross $2.9 million. Poor Things expanded to 2,300 theaters and jumped 32% to $2.8 million. The Zone of Interest expanded to 317 theaters, jumping 142% to $1.08 million. The weekend also saw the return of Oppenheimer ($1M, +284%), The Holdovers ($520k, +568%), and Killers of the Flower Moon ($220k, +3811%).
In new indie releases, Miller’s Girl opened in 350 theaters and grossed $321k. It recevied a 42 on Metacritic and a 2.5 on Letterboxd. Sometimes I Think About Dying debuted in 2 theaters and grossed $40k. It received a 67 on Metacritics and a 3.5 on Letterboxd.
