In a New Yorker investigation, author Clare Malone unveils that many of the stories included in the former Patriot Act host’s standup specials aren’t true. Minhaj acknowledges the truth of the untruths — listed below — but continuously refers to the idea of “emotional honesty” behind them. Stories include:
- That his daughter was exposed to a powder he believed to be Anthrax
- That he was rejected by a girl in high school for a prom date on the base of his race, mostly because of her racist parents. In the process he showed a blurred picture of her and her family and she endured harassment from fans.
- That a FBI informant joined his mosque when he was a teen and he experienced police brutality.
That’s just scratching the surface. There’s also some conversations with former Patriot Act factcheckers — predominantly female — who had a number of complaints.
