Lucian Piane, a music producer and former guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, has sadly passed away at the age of 46.

The composer, who worked closely with RuPaul during the early years of the reality competition series, passed away on Monday (October 12), according to Entertainment Weekly.

According to a new report from TMZ, law enforcement sources say Lucian was struck by a car in Glendale, California, early Monday morning.

The Glendale Fire Department told the outlet that emergency responders attempted to save him before he was pronounced dead at the scene.

TMZ also reports that Lucian did not have identification on him at the time, although authorities later confirmed his identity.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s records list his place of passing as the “street.” An official cause of death has not yet been announced.

    Who Was Lucian Piane?

Lucian was a music producer, songwriter and composer who became a familiar face to Drag Race viewers during the show’s early seasons.

He first appeared on the series during its debut season in 2009 and made his final appearance in 2012.

According to Entertainment Weekly, he appeared in 23 episodes and helped create music for challenges featured on the original series and its All Stars spinoff.

He also collaborated extensively with RuPaul on music outside the show, including the albums Champion, Glamazon and Born Naked. He is responsible for some of her biggest hits, including “Cover Girl,” “Jealous of My Boogie” and “Sissy That Walk.”

His other work included the soundtrack for the 2007 movie Hairspray, which featured music performed by Zac Efron, Nikki Blonsky, Queen Latifah and other cast members.

He also gained attention online under the name RevoLucian, creating viral remixes including “Bale Out,” which used audio from Christian Bale‘s outburst on the set of Terminator Salvation.

In 2016, Lucian drew criticism for a series of offensive social media posts, including remarks about RuPaul. He later apologized publicly in January 2017, attributing his behavior to what he described as a period of mental health difficulties.

Some of Lucian‘s final posts on social media also sparked concern in the comments.

According to TMZ, Lucian was also taken into custody by Glendale police twice in the days before his passing. The outlet reports that he was cited on Saturday (October 10) for allegedly being under the influence of a controlled substance, and again on Sunday (October 11) for allegedly assaulting an officer or emergency personnel. He was reportedly scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Authorities have not established any connection between his reported recent struggles and the circumstances of his passing.

Our thoughts are with Lucian‘s loved ones during this difficult time.
