Elizabeth Holmes has not seen the new documentary about her life.
The 42-year-old Theranos founder is the subject of You Can See Everything, the upcoming documentary from Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim.
During a Los Angeles screening on Tuesday night (October 6), the filmmakers revealed that neither Elizabeth nor her longtime partner Billy Evans has watched the finished movie.
“Neither of them have seen the film,” Lance said during the Q&A, via EW.
“Elizabeth is still incarcerated; Billy hasn’t seen it.”
According to Nathan, Billy “started trying to exert a level of control over the process” that made it difficult for the filmmakers to continue working with him.
“It was uncomfortable for us and A24,” he admitted.
“We sort of had to stop. Communication broke down basically, and we’ve been in that state for a little bit,” Nathan added. “So it’s been challenging in that way.”
The documentary follows Elizabeth, Billy and their family during the 34 days before she reported to prison in May 2023. According to A24, what began as a look at that period eventually became a three-year filmmaking project.
Nathan also said that he is still trying to understand what happened while making the movie.
“I still am not sure to this day what I experienced,” he said, adding that he hopes audiences seeing the documentary might help him make sense of the experience.
You Can See Everything opens in theaters on October 16.
