The 36-year-old singer is “very grateful” to be honoured after the organisation announced on Tuesday (11.08.26) that she will be admitted this autumn in the contemporary songwriter/artist category, while Lyle Lovett will be inducted in the veteran songwriter/artist division, Shawn Camp and Lee Thomas Miller will enter in the contemporary songwriter section, and Bruce Channel joins as a veteran songwriter.
In response to the news, Mark Ford, the executive director of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame read out a message from Taylor as he announced the inductees during a livestream.
Taylor said in her statement: “From the time I started writing songs as a child, I fixated on Nashville as the perfect place to be.
“I wanted to learn with and from the best and get to immerse myself in a community of storytellers, and thankfully Nashville turned out to be exactly what I’d dreamed of. A town that validated and prioritised hard work, determination and imagination. Where the writers show up to work every day even when the mysterious muses and the magic don’t.
“To be honoured by this city I love so much is a beautiful thing, and I’m very grateful.”
Meanwhile, as Lee stepped up to the podium to thank the hall for his inclusion, he quipped: “I’m so happy that Taylor Swift finally got a break. She needed a win.”
The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame was established in 1970 and currently has 254 members, including last year’s inductees Emmylou Harris, Brad Paisley, Jim Lauderdale, JJ Cale, Steve Bogard, Don Cook and Tony Martin.
The exact date the induction ceremony for the new honourees will take place has yet to be confirmed.
The news comes shortly after Taylor was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York in June, becoming the youngest female writer to be inducted.
During her acceptance speech, the Fate of Ophelia hitmaker was emotional as she paid tribute to the sacrifices her family had made for her to follow her dreams.
She said: “It was easy to choose songwriting over everything else in my life. But it couldn’t have been easy for my parents and my brother to just pick up and move our entire family from Pennsylvania to relocate to Nashville so that I could hone my craft in the songwriting capital of the world.
“But after making obvious that this was not even remotely a temporary phase their teen daughter was going through, they uprooted their entire lives to move me to Music City.
“And even though words are supposed to kind of be my thing, I will never be able to express my gratitude to you guys for doing that for me. You’re the reason I’m here tonight.”
