Obsession is defying the odds at the box office.
The Curry Barker directorial debut just increased its earnings in its second weekend at the box office amid positive word-of-mouth reviews and critical acclaim.
The Focus Features indie horror, which already started at an impressive $16 million haul in its opening weekend, rose to an additional $22 million in its second weekend, on track to end off with an estimated $28.2 million additional tally through the Memorial Day holiday, per Variety.
That’s an incredibly rare 30% increase over the opening weekend, resulting in an overall $58.5 million haul in North America thus far.
Last week, it officially became the cheapest movie to top the box office in 17 years since 2009’s Paranormal Activity. The movie was made on a reported $750,000 budget, per Forbes.
It’s now on track to become of the biggest horror movies of 2026, with plenty of calls for awards season acclaim.
