TikTok has had its fair share of wank for Gen Z employees. This week, a recruiter named Caitlin went viral for giving the advice that you should not bring an iced coffee into a job interview. She says that many of her Gen Z interviewees have been arriving with iced coffees in-hand. Caitlin clarifies that this only her opinion and that she works with mostly “Fortune 500, super buttoned-up corporations.”
However, the backlash against her was swift. The top comment on her post is, “Do you guys need employees or not.” Other commenters attacked her looks while defending the practice of bringing iced coffees to interviews. Naturally, there was swiftly a backlash to the backlash, with corporate workers saying that, no, it is not appropriate to bring an iced coffee to your job interview. Maybe it would fly if you brought it in that Starbucks Snoopy cup, though?
Last week was New York Fashion Week. One of the biggest topics of conversation was the prevalence of fashion influencers. Many fashion insiders apparently feel that influencers are making NYFW tacky and less expensive. However, other fashionistas say that the fashion industry has always been filled with quasi-famous rich people who do basically nothing. Still other commentators felt that the influencers are becoming ever-increasingly out of touch. Especially since last week was also the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, and many of the influencers at Fashion Week did not post about it.

Oh, and she is in love with a new guy now.
Have you ever heard of Lola Blankets? I had not until a recent ~viral TikTok scandal.~ Lola Blankets are fluffy blankets that range in price from $125 to $425. The brand has a cult following, but many buyers have noticed the quality dropping noticeably. One influencer made a negative review, so the company offered to send her a replacement. The CEO emailed her asking her to take down her TikTok, and when she refused, they cancelled her replacement order.
Ashley Dykes — yes, that is his real name — is a 35-year-old explorer who is about to film himself kayaking the Congo Basin. The basin has some of the most dangerous fauna in Central Africa, including crocodiles, hippos, and multiple species of venomous snakes. In 2010, a 35-year-old guy kayaking the Congo Basin was eaten by a giant crocodile that leapt out of the water and grabbed him by the shoulder. Dyke is using an INFLATABLE kayak, by the way.

Starbucks released a limited-edition Snoopy cup and some related Peanuts merch for the fall. The reaction online was about as expected. People got up before dawn and waited in ridiculously long lines outside of Starbucks stores; a woman rushed the line and stole the display cup while employees tried to stop her; and people got into expletive-filled verbal altercations in public. Over a Snoopy cup. (Honestly tho, it is pretty cute.)
