Ever since NBC announced in September that it would once again air the Golden Globes, there’s been one major question lingering: will the stars show up? Based on the initial list of presenters announced on Tuesday, the answer seems to be yes. Nominees Jamie Lee Curtis and Ana de Armas will be part of a starry presenter lineup that also includes Tracy Morgan, Billy Porter, Colman Domingo, Michaela Jae Rodriguez, and Quentin Tarantino, among others. Jerrod Carmichael, a recent Emmy winner, is set to host, and Eddie Murphy will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
Not quite two years since Tom Cruise returned his Golden Globes and Scarlett Johansson called for a “step back” from the awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will be hosting this year’s Golden Globes with the promise of real, serious reform. The backlash against the organization began in the spring of 2021, after an LA Times report found that the group had zero Black members. From there, stars including Johansson and Brendan Fraser came forward with stories of sexist questions and outright harassment from HFPA members.
Fraser is nominated this year for The Whale and has already said that he won’t be attending. But other major Hollywood players seem to be responding to the group’s extensive overhaul efforts, which include adding hundreds of new members and significantly increasing the group’s diversity. Though Globes nomination morning was markedly quiet for celebrity reaction interviews, stars like Viola Davis and Hugh Jackman celebrated their nominations on social media. Other reporting has suggested that the Hollywood Foreign Press’s conversations with the publicists who led the initial boycott have gotten much friendlier, suggesting their clients may be willing attendees.
A complete list of the 2023 Golden Globes presenters is below, with more names expected to be added later this week.
