The weekend’s Halloween box office numbers are in, and they aren’t pretty. Either Regretting You or Black Phone 2 may have won the weekend – right now, estimates have Regretting You at $8.1 million in its second weekend, and the Black Phone sequel at a flat $8 million in its third. But those are just estimates, and could easily flip-flop by the time the numbers are in tomorrow. Either way, that’s a terrible number for the top spot at the weekend box office. In fact, this is the lowest grossing October since 1997, excluding 2020. Regretting You only dropped 41% from its opening weekend, making $27.5 million domestic and $50 million worldwide so far, while Black Phone 2 hit $61 million domestic and $104 globally.
In third place and fourth place were Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc and KPop Demon Hunters, which enjoyed another short theatrical singalong re-release. Both films made around $6 million, although Netflix doesn’t release box office figures so that number is just an educated guess by exhibitors and rival studios.
In fifth place was the recently expanded Bugonia, which made $4.8 million in its first weekend of wide release. It earned a B Cinemascore, which is not ideal, but very much expected for a Yorgos Lanthimos directed film.
