    ‘Lilo & Stitch’ & ‘Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning’ Set Most Successful Memorial Day Weekend Box Office Numbers

    This year’s Memorial Day weekend was a massive success at the box office.

    The live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch is the highest earning movie for the 2025 Memorial Day weekend. It roped in $145.5 million domestically in its opening weekend, and is predicted to earn $183 million by the end Monday. Internationally, is is currently at $341.7 million.

    “This is a sensational opening, It’s a crowd-pleaser, and the audience score is outstanding,” David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research said of Lilo & Stitch, per Variety.

    Meanwhile, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning came in second place, roping in $63 million domestically over the weekend. It is estimated to reach $77 million by the end of Monday, and it is currently at $127 million internationally.

    Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is one of the most expensive films of all time, costing $400 million to make, and faced production obstacles such as the pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA strike.

    David also weighed in on the success of the eighth installment in the Mission Impossible franchise.

    “With this opening, and with excellent business overseas, The Final Reckoning is going to make a lot of money. But the costs are enormous, and it’ll be lucky to break-even. The delays were uncontrollable and unfortunate,” he said.

    Chris Aronson, Paramount’s distribution chief, also commented on Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning.

    “A record opening on the eighth iteration is remarkable. It speaks to the longevity of the franchise. The spectacle of what Tom [Cruise] and Christopher McQuarrie put on screen is one-of-a-kind in today’s marketplace,” he said.

    Coming in third place is Final Destination: Bloodlines, which earned $19 million over the weekend domestically and an estimated $24.5 million through Monday. Currently, it generated $94.6 million in domestically and $187 million worldwide.

    Fourth is Thunderbolts, which brought in $9.5 million domestically over the weekend, and an estimated $12 million through Monday. So far, it has earned $171 million domestically and $353 million globally.

    Finishing off the top five is Sinners, which earned $9.1 million over the weekend and an estimated $11.2 million through Monday. Overall, it has currently garnered $259 million in North America and $80 million internationally.

    2025 marks the highest-attended memorial day box office weekend of all time.

    “Every film on the release calendar for the rest of the summer is going to benefit from the momentum created over this monumental record-breaking Memorial weekend in theaters,” said Paul Dergarbedian, senior analyst at Comscore.
