Miley has released the official music video for her new song “Different Religion,” featuring Model/Actriz!
The 33-year-old superstar unveiled the new visual on Wednesday (September 30), less than two weeks after releasing her tenth studio album Bass Persuades.
“Different Religion” is the second track on the album and features vocals from Model/Actriz frontman Cole Haden.
The music video was directed by famed photographer and director Mert Alas, who has been heavily involved in the visuals for Miley‘s latest era.

What Does Miley’s “Different Religion” Mean?
“Different Religion” uses religious imagery to describe intense physical and romantic attraction.
Throughout the song, Miley compares a lover to a god and presents desire almost like a new faith. She sings about wanting to be “saved” by this different religion while suggesting that she and her lover don’t need forgiveness.
“I want to be saved by a different religion, I crave to believe him,” she declares.
The religious imagery continues throughout the track with references to Heaven, Jesus and angels, while those spiritual ideas are paired with physical descriptions of attraction and intimacy.
The result is essentially a song about surrendering yourself to desire and treating a lover with the kind of devotion normally associated with faith.
Miley worked on this album with her fiancé, Maxx Morando.
What Has Miley Said About “Different Religion”?
Miley discussed how “Different Religion” fits into the album’s exploration of love and relationships.
During her interview with Zane Lowe, she revealed that “Different Religion” and “Orbit” were written on the same day while discussing the idea of her “dream relationship.”
Miley explained that while she wants the happy ending and stability of a lasting relationship, she also wants passion that feels “a little bit dangerous.”
She also spoke about collaborating with Model/Actriz, describing the band as one of her favorites and explaining that “Different Religion” has more “rawness and aggression” than the ethereal, dreamy sound she often gravitates toward.

Miley Cyrus, Cole Haden, Jack Wetmore, Aaron Shapiro, Ruben Radlauer, Kid Harpoon and Michael Pollack are credited as writers on the song.

The official “Different Religion” music video premiered on Wednesday (September 30).
The visual was directed by Mert Alas, who also directed Miley‘s recent “Let’s Get Married” and “Bass Persuades” music videos and photographed imagery for her Bass Persuades era.
“Different Religion” originally arrived with Bass Persuades on September 18. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, giving Miley her first chart-topping album in more than a decade.
