Forgotten Scottish rock duo The Proclaimers are the latest in a line of legacy acts to tarnish the remnants of their reputation with an attack on transgender people and their rights. The twin brothers, known only for I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), have released a new “staunchly political” album which claims that the push for equality for transgender people is simply “the Left losing their collective mind”.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, the melting Tyler Oakley impersonators went to bat for J.K. Rowling, claiming that she’s “absolutely right on women’s rights”, and raged against the passing of 2022’s Gender Recognition Reform Bill (that sought to make it easier for citizens to change their legally recognized gender), which was blocked by the UK government and never took effect.
Craig Reed, one half of the duo, insisted he was not transphobic, adding: “A lot of these folk are basically truth-phobic. They’ll deny the biological reality. Then if you insist on it, they’ll say that you are hurting their feelings. That you’re disrespecting them. But I respect reality and scientific fact, not myth.”
