Tony winner Duncan Sheik is currently in the hospital.
On Wednesday (September 16), the official Instagram account for the 56-year-old singer and composer, best known for writing the music for the Broadway hit musical Spring Awakening, revealed that he has been hospitalized and is in “critical by stable condition.”
“We would like to share an update with Duncan’s fan and the public,” the statement began. “Duncan is currently receiving medical care and remains in critical but stable condition. Out of respect of respect for Duncan and our family, we will not be sharing any further medical details at this time.”
“We kindly ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time and we will provide updates when appropriate,” the statement continued. “Thank you for the continued love and support.”
As of right now, Duncan‘s medical woes have not been disclosed.
For the past several weeks, Duncan has made several references about being in a hospital on Instagram.
“I would prefer to be home making music. But a bit of reflection is not too bad … boring hospital stays have their benefits (outside the obvious.)” he wrote along with a selfie in a hospital gown.
Then on September 7, he shared another selfie in the hospital, writing, “Out of here in 60 hours.”
News that Duncan is in “critical but stable condition” comes just days before his new Off-Broadway musical Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen begins performances on September 25. Later this fall, Spring Awakening is being revived for a major Off-Broadway production in November.
Spring Awakening, which starred Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff, first opened on Broadway in 2006. For composing the musical Duncan won the Tony for Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations.
