Princess Astrid of Norway has died at 94. She was the older sister of the late King Harald V. She died exactly two weeks after his death, and two days after his funeral.
The Norwegian Royal House announced the news of the Princess’ death today, Friday September 11th, sharing that the princess “passed away peacefully.”
The princess made her last public appearance at her brother Harald V’s funeral, which was held on Wednesday. It marked the end of 13 days of national mourning.
Also in attendance at the funeral was his son and successor, King Haakon VIII, and other members of the Norwegian royal family. In addition several royals from all over the world were present, including the Prince of Wales, as well as other state representatives from a number of countries. The funeral was preceded by a national minute of silence.
“Throughout her long life, Princess Astrid represented the royal house in a warm and dutiful manner,” King Haakon VIII said in the statement announcing her death.
