Johnny Depp is in talks to star in the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
Is Johnny Depp returning for Pirates of the Caribbean 6?
The 63-year-old actor and musician is currently “talking” to Jerry Bruckheimer about the sixth movie in the film franchise, according to the 82-year-old producer.
What Jerry Bruckheimer said about Johnny Depp
Jerry confirmed the news at D23 to Deadline over the weekend, who said that “we’re talking with Johnny (Depp), we’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done.”
Johnny has played the eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow in the film series.
This isn’t the first time he’s confirmed the news: last year, he said to EW “If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it. It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know.”
Will Jack Sparrow be the main character?
In addition, Deadline sources said the next movie “won’t feel like just the nth tale of Captain Jack Sparrow, rather the next chapter will focus on Margot Robbie’s protagonist with Sparrow as a side character. Essentially, an evolution of the franchise.”
When was the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie released?
The latest movie, Dead Men Tell No Tales, was released in 2017 and brought in nearly $800 million worldwide. The overall franchise has brought in over $4.5 billion at the box office.
The high-profile 2022 defamation trial between the actor and ex Amber Heard resulted in a largely favorable verdict for Johnny.
He alleged that he was let go from the film franchise after Amber‘s 2018 op-ed, in which she alluded to allegations of domestic abuse. Johnny responded to the essay by suing the actress for $50 million in damages.
At the same time, Johnny is promoting his new movie in Ebenezer by getting back into character for a public appearance.
