The Odyssey is continuing to break records.
The Christopher Nolan epic has just become the acclaimed director’s highest-grossing movie of all time.
The movie passed the $1 billion mark over the weekend and now claims a global haul of $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office, surpassing 2012’s Dark Knight Rises ($1.085 billion), per Deadline.
The movie also became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of the year, and the second highest-grossing R-rated movie, just behind Deadpool & Wolverine ($1.33 billion).
In total, Christopher‘s movies have made over $7 billion worldwide. His filmography includes Momento, Batman Begins, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet and Oppenheimer.
It’s also the highest grossing movie of Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson’s careers globally, Deadline notes.
The movie is also going over well with both audiences and critics: it’s currently sitting at 94% Fresh among critics, with a 97% audience score among thousands of reviews. It also has an A rating on CinemaScore.
The movie, written by the director is an adaptation of Homer‘s ancient Greek epic that follows Odysseus, King of Ithaca, on his journey to return home after the Trojan War.
The Odyssey features an A-list roster of stars, including Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, and Charlize Theron as Calypso.
Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, John Leguizamo, and Mia Goth all star as well.
