Gracie Abrams has slammed rumours her career has been harmed by her relationship with Paul Mescal.
Gracie Abrams denies claims Paul Mescal romance has hurt her career
The Hit the Wall singer has been dating the Normal People actor since 2024, and the pair now live together in London.
However, fans have been wondering whether or not the romance has adversely affected Gracie’s singing success, after she herself previously expressed concern that a long-term partnership could hinder her career.
She had told Vogue in June: “I was worried feeling secure and stable was threatening my drive to write music. It freaked me out.”
Now, in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Gracie has reflected on the reaction to her admission.
She said: “I’m like, ‘Are we on crack? Like, what the f***?’”
The 26-year-old singer added that the response had reminded her why she prefers to stay off sites such as Instagram and X.
She sighed: “That was my cue to be like, ‘Oh, remember why you don’t look [at social media]?’”
Gracie also said that she had “far less experience sitting down to write when I was filled with security and joy and love and safety” before she started dating Paul.
She added: “I was like, ‘Oh, s*** how am I going to approach this?’ Or, you know, ‘How’s it going to impact the quantity of songs I write?’ And it’s had the most amazing effect on my writing. It has given me the most amount of space to reflect on everything in my life. “It has held a mirror to me in ways that I didn’t know a relationship with another person of any kind could. It has given me all the perspective that I could have ever hoped for, on previous relationships, on my relationship with my family, on my friendships.
“It is the greatest gift, period.”
Gracie’s Rolling Stone interview came after Paul previously opened up to the magazine about their relationship, telling the publication in September 2025: “I want to protect those things fundamentally. Everything to do with that [relationship] is deeply precious to me.”
