Kirsten Storms‘ character Maxie Jones is officially leaving Port Charles, at least for now.
The Thursday (July 23) episode of General Hospital revealed that Maxie, Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson), and their children are relocating to Australia after Spinelli received a major job opportunity.
Neither Maxie nor Spinelli appeared during the episode. Instead, Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) shared the news while explaining that the family was prepared to leave the following night. The soap also established that Maxie sold her shares in Deception Cosmetics to Michael Corinthos, played by Rory Gibson, before the move, per Soap Opera Digest.
Maxie’s updated storyline explains Kirsten‘s continued absence, although ABC has not publicly announced that she has permanently left the series.

What has Kirsten Storms said about returning?
Kirsten initially stepped away from General Hospital in 2025 while relocating to Tennessee with her daughter. She briefly returned in February 2026, when Maxie awoke from a coma, but had not appeared in the contract section of the show’s closing credits since March, according to Soap Opera Network.
Addressing her future on the soap in early June via Instagram, Kirsten wrote, “As for what is in my future, where GH is concerned… Given what’s been going on, I can’t say I will feel comfortable heading back to Los Angeles and returning to work.”
The actress has also been navigating an ongoing custody dispute with ex-husband Brandon Barash. In a July Instagram update, she characterized the matter as a “‘disagreement,’ that WILL be resolved” and asked fans to stop speculating out of consideration for their daughter.
Kirsten has played Maxie since 2005.
In case you didn’t see, Rory Gibson married his longtime live Alicia Ruelas earlier this year!
