Lenny Kravitz wears leather pants to exercise in so that he can fit in a workout “anytime, anywhere”.
Lenny Kravitz can exercise in leather pants
The 62-year-old singer still has a physique men half his age would be jealous of, and can often be seen donning his trademark skintight leathers while working up a sweat.
In an interview with Men’s Health Music + Muscle Issue, he explained his thinking, as he said: “I perform onstage in leather, denim, whatever, so those are the pants I wear to train. It also means I can fit in a workout anytime, anywhere.”
When it comes to his leather trousers, he can also use them to see if he needs to lose or gain any weight.
He laughed: “I can gauge everything by how I’m in my pants. Like, if my pants are a little tight, I know I’m getting outta’ shape. My friend Denzel Washington gave me this phrase, ‘The pants don’t lie, the pants don’t lie.’”
While some people work out in a bid to build up muscles, Lenny isn’t keen on looking too “big or bulky”.
Instead, he wants a “very narrow silhouette” – more like “Spider-Man meets Bruce Lee”.
Lenny explained: “Bruce Lee looked good in clothes.
“He’s bad – a thin, cool guy who obviously had muscle tone and who moved and flowed really gracefully.”
But he won’t go to extreme measures in the quest for fitness perfection – he’s all about the natural method.
Lenny continued: “All this is natural: no peptides, no human growth hormone, no testosterone.
“There’s nothing wrong if people want to do those things. But there’s an alternative. You can do it naturally with exercise and food.
“Is it harder? Yes. Does it take more work? Yes. But that’s how I choose to do it, and it’s 100 per cent attainable.”
In terms of his food, Lenny sticks to an intermittent fasting program – but unintentionally. While he doesn’t like to eat anything before 3 or 4pm, his first meal of the day is usually an egg white omelette with vegetables, followed by a protein shake later on and then a salad to finish the day.
