Kit Connor and Joe Locke are defending Heartstopper.
Ahead of the release of their Heartstopper Forever movie, the stars defended included queer sex scenes in the beloved Netflix franchise, arguing that those scenes are an important part of the story.
“It’s a line that you have to walk: ‘How far are we going to take this?’” Kit, 22, told The Guardian. “But at the end of the day, it did feel like these two guys are really attracted to each other at the age where they probably would have been doing it.”

Kit and Joe, also 22, star as Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring, respectively, in the Heartstopper. The coming-of-age romance series, adapted from Alice Oseman‘s graphic novels, aired for three seasons on Netflix from 2022 to 2024. The entire cast reunited for Heartstopper Forever, the upcoming feature film set years later that will serve as the story’s conclusion.
Considering Nick and Charlie’s older age and maturity in Heartsopper Forever, the actors believe it “would be weird” to exclude sex scenes from the movie.

“It would be weird if we hadn’t shown it. Just because our show is a more earnest version of a queer representation doesn’t mean that sex [shouldn’t be shown],” Joe said. “It’s still a big thing for anyone in the world. I don’t think Heartstopper is ever trying to say anything bad about casual sex. It’s just nice to see two boys in love.”
Kit and Joe‘s comments come after the the Heartstopper creator also recently defended including sex scenes in the franchise.
Heartstopper Forever will premiere NEXT Friday (July 17) on Netflix. Watch the trailer here!
