Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat are teaming up for The Wrong Girls.
The trailer for the NEON stoner comedy just arrived Tuesday (July 7), which is the feature directorial debut of writer-director Dylan Meyer, who is Kristen‘s wife.
Kristen and Alia star as Frankie and Molly, two pot-loving best friends whose lives are derailed by a case of mistaken identity.
“It’s a stoner girl comedy, and it’s really f—ing stupid. I think you’ll like it,” Kristen said in a previous interview.
“Frankie and Molly are codependent boneheads who have spent the last 10 years blissfully in a fog of weed smoke, co-signing each others’ bad choices and screening adulthood’s increasingly insistent calls. Just as Molly’s boyfriend asks her to move in with him, Frankie is mistakenly given a briefcase full of glowing vials of an experimental psychedelic,” the director explained to the outlet.
The cast includes “LaKeith Stanfield as NotMetalHeadDave, the for-hire action man who gives the girls the briefcase; Zack Fox as Molly’s ‘wonderful,’ as Meyer describes him, boyfriend Josh; Tony Hale as a ‘douchey real estate developer’; Kate McKinnon as Dr. Olsen, the Danish scientist who created the drugs; Geena Davis as Dr. Olsen’s partner in life and science, and Seth Rogen and Kumail Nanjiani as Frankie and Molly’s judgmental talking cats.”
The movie will hit theaters on August 14.
“The Wrong Girls was born from my relationship with my best friend and producing partner Maggie McLean, the babe I couldn’t do anything without. It’s a love letter to wayward chaotic women and the essential platonic partnerships that prop them up. The Wrong Girls may feature giant squids, Danish hitmen, talking cats, and supernatural abilities, but the emotional story and stakes are pure memoir,” Dylan said to EW.
