Jason Kelce thinks American soccer fans need to improve their trash talk.

The 38-year-old former NFL star – who is the elder brother of Travis Kelce – has called on American soccer fans to develop some more imaginative chants for their World Cup games.
Speaking to Landon Donovan and Tim Howard on the Unfiltered Soccer podcast, Jason explained: “I hear a lot of the other chants from UK teams. ‘I believe that we will win!’
“I know you played over there, Tim. I know that there’s a lot of energy and passion in those chants. And not just that. Aggression. They’re going to be in your face with those chants.
“‘I believe that we will win,’ that’s a little … we need to step this up a bit.”
Jason dislikes what the familiar chant symbolises.
He explained: “The chant is trying to convince yourself that you can win. Brazil doesn’t need to convince themselves. They just always think that they can win.”
Jason believes American football could actually learn something from soccer fans.
The former sports star – who played for the Philadelphia Eagles between 2011 and 2023 – said: “I would have loved for Eagles fans or NFL fans to adopt some of the chanting that happens [in soccer].
“The Eagles, we have, ‘Fly eagles fly, on the road to victory.’ It’s very nice. I’m like, ‘No, this doesn’t feel like it fits American football, either.’ We need to be, like, punch you in the mouth kind of attitude, as well.
“We need some drunken nights at a pub with a bunch of dudes just trying to figure out how we can talk s*** to the opposing team.”
Despite this, Jason has loved the World Cup so far, and he can’t wait to see the USA in action in their next game against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Jason – who is set to attend Travis’ wedding to Taylor Swift later this week – said: “I think everyone across the country right now is fired up.
“I know we lost to [Turkiye] resting, what, nine players or however many changes there were. But I think the energy for the United States right now is high.”
