In a follow-up to this post, Neon has picked up Artificial from director Luca Guadagnino for a 2026 release. The film is set during a tumultuous few days in 2023 when OpenAI fired and quickly rehired its CEO, Sam Altman. It is reportedly a biting look at OpenAI, with Altman (portrayed by Andrew Garfield) painted in a particularly unflattering light. Ike Barinholtz also plays a highly detestable Elon Musk.

Artificial was set to be released by Amazon, but the tech giant abruptly dropped the feature shortly after making a massive investment in OpenAI. Neon acquired the movie yesterday and announced that they will enter it in to this year’s Oscars race. An exact release date is TBA.

In addition to Andrew Garfield and Ike Barinholtz, the ensemble includes Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro, Billie Lourd, Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Koch, Cooper Hoffman, and Mark Rylance.
