Samara Weaving is revealing her worst audition story, and it involves the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise.
While speaking to host Amanda Hirsch on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Samara spoke out about what happened when she attempted to audition for the film franchise.
Samara clarified that the role she auditioned for was not Dakota Johnson‘s Anastasia. She seemingly auditioned to play Anastasia’s bestie Kate, the role eventually played by Eloise Mumford.
Samara attended an initial audition with a huge line of women, and immediately after left to visit her parents in Australia
“I then fly back to Australia and my parents have a place at the South Coast which is like middle of nowhere. There’s nothing to do. There’s no one around. Very remote. I get a call from my agent going, ‘You’ve got a call back.’”
Samara had to read the audition sides with her mom and dad, as there was no one else available
“Then I quickly realized the only people that I can read with is my mother or my father. And the scenes are like, ‘You did what? Where?’ And like, ‘How good was he?’…Like, I wanted to die dead. So, I was like, ‘Okay, I just have to I guess read with mom.’ And I sit down and I’m like, ‘Mom, just like don’t even look at me. Just say the lines.’ And she was staring at me going, ‘Why are you doing that with your mouth?’ Like, ‘What are you doing with your eyes? Like, why are you sounding like that? Do you sure you want to do a red lip?’ And I’m going, ‘I cannot with you.’ And so I like fired my mom,” she shared.
She then had her dad give the lines a go…and it didn’t go well
She said, “And then I was like, ‘F-ck, I have to do it with your dad. I have to do with my dad. I have to do it with my dad.’ Okay. So, I said the same thing. I’m like, ‘Dad, just look down. Don’t don’t say just like shut up and say the lines like a robot.’ Instead he was like, ‘Oh, this is the moment I’m gonna choose how to act.’”
“So, he like took on the role of Dakota Johnson and it’s going, ‘It was amazing. Can you believe?’ I was like, ‘No, let’s shut this down. This is too uh the trauma is too much. The movie will just pay for my like therapy that I need. So, let’s just call it a day and not be a part of this,’” she continued.
She did not end up sending in the audition!
